A warm group of people in conversation.

OUR MISSION

Every Rotterdammer seen, heard and valued.

We believe help does not have to be large, professional or expensive to make a difference. An hour a week. A conversation that is not cut short. A neighbour who calls before things go wrong. That is where it starts.

OUR VISION

Hundreds of small encounters that would otherwise not happen.

A woman who dares to attend the parent-teacher meeting on her own. A man sitting at the table with neighbours after years. A teenager who discovers she is not the first with these questions. Invisible success — but real.

THREE CORE VALUES

See. Connect. Value.

A woman in conversation; supportive attention.

01 · CORE VALUE

Seeing

Really seeing starts with taking the time. Not looking at the paperwork, but at the person. What does someone carry with them? What has someone already overcome? In practice, this means our volunteers learn to listen before they offer anything. A first visit is not an intake; it is getting to know each other.

A conversation between people of different generations.

02 · CORE VALUE

Connecting

Bringing together people who need each other. A student next to a grandfather who likes chess. A newcomer next to a neighbour to practise the parent-teacher conversation together. An informal carer next to someone going through the same thing. We do not look for the match that looks perfect on paper, but the match that works.

A hand resting on another hand — informal care.

03 · CORE VALUE

Valuing

Valuing means letting someone know that they matter. We celebrate milestones, however small. A first job interview. A first visit to the doctor without an escort. A birthday with someone there. We believe valuing is contagious: those who feel seen, begin to see others.

OUR WAY OF WORKING

Three principles guide our work.

How we approach the work shapes what it becomes. These three principles are not up for discussion.

01

Close and personal

We work in the neighbourhood, with names and faces. No anonymous numbers, no months-long waiting lists.

02

For the long haul

Change takes time. We stay, even when it gets complicated. We do not promise what we cannot deliver.

03

Together with partners

We add, we do not replace. With welfare organisations, schools, municipalities and community centres we work toward a city where everyone takes part.

Two hands holding each other — a gesture of support.
