Stories are not a side dish in our work. They are at the heart of it. Those who get to tell their story — and know that someone is listening — are seen. And being seen is exactly what Support a Bit stands for.
On this page we gather stories from our work: from volunteers, from the people we meet, from neighbours who wanted to share something. Not to impress, not to raise money, but because a story sometimes says more than a report or a statistic.
On consent and privacy
We publish no story without the explicit written consent of the people who appear in it. Those who would rather appear under another name, do so. Those who would rather not be in a photograph, simply are not. A story can be withdrawn at any time; we then take it off the site, even if it was already online. The arrangements for this are set out in our privacy statement and in a separate policy on story publication.
Some stories are composite or anonymised to protect the privacy of those involved. We always make it clear when that is the case.
Sharing your own story
Have you experienced something yourself that you think could help others? We would like to hear about it. A story can be big or small. A time when you felt seen. A time when you very much did not feel seen. A volunteer who made a difference for you. A neighbour who surprised you. A turn of events you had not seen coming.
Email us at contact@supportabit.nl with the subject "story", or get in touch. We take time to talk with you before anything is put on paper — and nothing goes online without your explicit agreement.
